SEO / Search Engine Optimization Question?

Written by admin on Mar 28th, 2010 | Filed under: Search Engine Optimization

I have a question about the other pages on my websites. I was wondering if it made any difference when it came to optimizing my site if the pages on my website have a _ (underline spacer) instead of a – (dash spacer) separating the words?

For example if I had: mywebsite.com/new_page or should it be mywebsite.com/new-page
??

  1. Dashes between words are standard practice for page names.
Underscores, I tend to use, for naming graphics.

See the basic "Storyboarding Tutorial’ below for basic guidelines on keyword usage for a page.
It is written for my students (Site Build It users), but is relevant for anyone wanting to learn basic seo skills.

  2. As far as I know hyphens are better than underscores for seo.

  3. Use the hyphen. Avoid use of underscores.
