Internet Marketing – Advantages and Disadvantages

Everyone seems to be jumping on the internet marketing bandwagon lately. In the race to get their business online, many successful businesses forget to ask themselves some tough questions about what they are doing, what their expectations are and what their plan is to meet those expectations.

The internet can be a powerful tool that can put you on solid footing with bigger companies. On the other hand, the other companies may have more money to pay for advertising. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind as you analyze your internet marketing strategy.

Advantage of Internet Marketing

– your store is open, 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. Further, your customers are worldwide in reach, and can shop anytime that they want to

– the cost of spreading your message is next to nothing. Emailing your subscription base is more oftne cheaper than sending a letter through the mail

– updating your subscribers can be done almost instantly through email. Visitors to your website can get up to the minute information on each visit. If you are having a sale, your customers can start shopping at the discounted prices literally as soon as they open their email

– if you have an information sensitive business, such as a law firm, newspaper or online magazine, you can deliver your products directly to your customers without having to use a courier

Disadvantages of Internet Marketing

– online marketing is not free. The cost of software, hardware, wed site design, maintenance of your site, online distribution costs and of course, time, all must be factored into the cost of providing your service or product.

– slightly over 50% of households shop online. While that number will continue to grow, you are reaching less than two out of three households.

– the internet is still regarded as a source of information gathering for the majority of your customers. Of the number of visitors to your site, the vast majority of visitors who are motivated to buy will do so in person. Many people prefer the live interaction when they buy. If you have a small business with one location, this may deter customers from buying.

– easier to have outdated information on your site, thus timing of updates is critical

– there is no replacement for good old fashioned customer service. The majority of internet marketers lack customer service and inquiry response programs. As a result, many online visitors to your site will already have painted your site as poor service before they have even contacted you. The majority of websites also have poor navigation, which makes it difficult for your visitor to find what they are looking for. Many sites were created with a marketing view, not a customer service point of view.

– is your site secure? Does your customer know this? There are many incorrect stereotypes about the security of the internet out there. As a result, many of your visitors will not want to use their credit card to make a purchase. The fear of having their credit card info stolen is a clear and present danger in the minds of your visitors

– there is a lot of competition for your product already out there. By the time your visitor finds you, they have already been clicking many links. Unless they can find what they are looking for quickly, they are gone.

– many web visitors expect something for free. What do you have to offer them?

There are many other pros and cons of internet marketing. Its important for you to consider each when creating your internet marketing strategy. Each of the disadvantages can be overcome, but only if you view the customer experience from the eyes of your customer, not as an internet marketer.

Sinus Infection Symptoms – How to Identify and Classify Them

Acute Sinus Infection Symptoms (Sudden Onset)

Sinus infection Symptoms vary somewhat, depending on the type of sinus and whether the infections are acute or chronic.

The most common type of sinus develops in the largest sinus cavities in the skull, and those are situated in the cheekbones. Typical symptoms are as follows:

Maxillary Sinusitis (in the cheekbones)

  • Red or swollen cheeks that feel tender when touched.
  • Painful upper jaw and aching teeth.
  • Pressure headache focused across one or both cheeks and below the eyes.
  • Prolific nasal discharge with occasional plugs of thick yellow or green mucous.
  • Post-nasal drip (down the back of the throat), sometimes accompanied by a sore throat.
  • Bad breath.
  • Low-grade fever is fairly common.
  • Pain and pressure is worse when upright or bending forward and better when lying down.

Frontal Sinusitis (in the forehead)

  • Severe pressure sinus headache in the brow area on one or both sides.
  • Thick yellow or green tinged nasal discharge.
  • Post-nasal drip, occasional sore throat.
  • Bad breath.
  • Pain eases when upright and intensifies when lying down.
  • Low-grade fever is common.

Sphenoid Sinusitis (behind the eyes)

  • A cap of dull, deep pain that seems to encircle the head, starting at the back and continuing round to just behind the eyes. Pain in the top of the skull.
  • Double vision, tunnel vision, bright flashes, eyesight goes in and out of focus and other disturbances may be experienced. These indicate that sinus pressure extends to the membranes lining the brain (a rare and dangerous condition).
  • Thick nasal discharge with plugs of yellow or green mucous.
  • Post-nasal drip, occasional sore throat.
  • Bad breath.
  • Pain intensifies when lying on the back or bending forward.
  • Low-grade fever is common.

Ethmoid Sinusitis (between the eyes, just above the bridge of the nose)

  • Pressurized pain in the corners of the eyes close to the tear ducts, or down one or both sides of the nose.
  • Pressure headache in one or both temples.
  • Sinus congestion with occasional prolific nasal discharge containing yellow or green plugs of mucous.
  • Post-nasal drip, sore throat.
  • Bad breath.
  • Pressurized pain intensifies when coughing, sneezing or lying on the back, and eases when standing or sitting with the head upright.
  • Loss of smell can occur.
  • Low-grade fever is common.

Please Note: Acute sinusitis is considered to be an infectious disease.

Do not Underestimate the Dangers of Sinusitis

On rare occasions infection could spread to the meninges surrounding the brain and sometimes right into the facial bones themselves. The infection can also cause an abscess to develop in the eye socket, facial bone or brain.

Sinus infection symptoms related to the eye socket can start with swollen or droopy eyelids, fixed dilated pupils, inability to move the eyes and vision problems. These complications are associated with ethmoid sinusitis.

A person experiencing any of the above would become totally incapacitated and dangerously ill.

Immediate hospitalization and specialized care would be essential; these conditions could lead to permanent blindness, coma and even death.

Chronic Sinusitis Symptoms (Long-lasting and Recurrent)

The cause of repetitive sinus attacks is largely unknown. However, careful observation has shown that the condition often occurs in people suffering from asthma.

If this turns out to be a major cause of chronic episodes, then one must assume that the reason for many attacks could logically be traced back to either allergic reaction or to fungicidal causes. This argument is supported by the fact that most asthma sufferers have allergies.

Maxillary Sinusitis

  • Dull pressurized pain below the eye.
  • Pain increases with allergic reactions, colds or ‘flu.
  • Dull, aching toothache in the upper jaw, (known as “sinus toothache”).
  • Discomfort builds up during the day and culminates in nighttime coughing.

Frontal Sinusitis

  • Persistent low-grade sinus pressure headache in the brow area.
This is a sign of abnormal anatomic variations inside the nose, such as a deviated septum that restricts the nasal passages.

Ethmoid Sinusitis

  • Congestion.
  • Chronic nasal discharge.
  • Persistent background pain across the bridge of the nose.
  • Pain on bridge of nose intensifies when wearing eyeglasses.
  • Post-nasal drip.
  • Chronic sore throat.
  • Bad breath.
  • Pain worse in the late morning.

Sphenoid Sinusitis

Continuous low-grade headache in most patients.

Unlike the acute variety, chronic sinusitis is not considered to be infectious.

Online Vs Offline SEO: Which Is Best for Your Business?

If you ask anyone who works in the SEO industry what optimisation means and what its purpose is, they’ll probably be able to give you a quick, if not necessarily straightforward answer. The aim is clearly to improve the status of your business website /brand on the results pages of search engines: the higher the ranking, the more likely users will be attracted to your services. Now ask those very same people how to best achieve this and the waters start to get a little muddier.

Some SEO experts favour on-page, or on-line optimisation techniques, others prefer off-page. The majority, you would hope, would recommend a combination of the two strategies. If it could just be left at that, the world would be a simpler place. However, SEO professionals don’t seem to do ‘simple’. They’ll start telling you about the importance of ‘organic’ marketing, ‘Meta tag’ settings and other weird and wonderful sounding concepts that you really ‘must’ use. Is it any wonder we mere mortals get confused? What do any of these terms actually mean? Well, hopefully after you’ve read this article the waters may become a little clearer.

On-page SEO refers to the optimisation of the pages that make up your actual business website. This is the more technical aspect of the optimisation process and refers to those factors that have an effect on website or webpage listings in natural search results: these factors are controlled by you or by the coding on your web pages. Any optimisation will focus on the keywords that make up the content or the copy on your web site. It will also look at areas like HTML coding, Meta tags, unique content, website design and layout. Essentially on-page optimisation is all about tweaking all the technical bits and bobs that lurk beneath the surface, so that both search engines and ordinary users are given the precise information they’re looking for: the better and more accurate the results, then the greater the traffic.

Offline SEO refers to the optimisation of the pages away from your website. They are referred to as ‘off-page’ because they are not controlled by you or by the coding on your website. Off-page optimisation techniques focus predominantly on areas like link building, directory and article submission, blog posting and forum posting. The purpose of offline optimisation is to maximise all the links that come off your website pages to encourage a higher placing in the search engine results.

So which is best?

It won’t surprise you to learn that there isn’t a simple answer to this. Well, there wouldn’t be, would there? Each has its own merits and limitations. It’s all a matter of horses for courses: it depends on what your ultimate goal is and how quickly you expect to see the results.

Traditionally on-page optimisation will produce better long-term results, but these can take time.  If your business aim is to get yourself established on the likes of Google and Bing or other high-ranking search engines, then you’ll have to be prepared to be patient. Building a reputation and creating top-notch, relevant content takes time and effort. Those SEO companies and business who aren’t prepared to bide their time will have to explore other avenues to get the quick fixes they desire.

Off-page optimisation can and often does produce quicker and more-measurable results, but that can come at a price. It’s all predominantly about link building. If your website is able to link to high-profile, respected websites, then your ranking can receive an immediate boost just through the power of positive association. Off-page SEO can give your business website this boost, a sort of kick start if you’d prefer, but it can’t necessarily sustain it for the longer term. If your aim is sustainability, then it’s probably much wiser to use a combination of both optimisation strategies.

Everybody seems to want the quick fix nowadays: I suppose it’s a direct consequence of living in a world where we all appear to demand instant gratification. However, some things are still worth waiting for: when they eventually come, you appreciate them all the more. Internet marketing strategists will tell you that the only way for a website to achieve sustainable organic growth is by adopting a holistic marketing strategy, and do you know what? I think they’re probably right.
