Should I stay, or is it time to move on?

Written by admin on Feb 24th, 2010 | Filed under: Page Rank

Been married 17 years. We own a bridal business which has been going downhill steadily, an internet casualty. We do about 1/10 the business we did 10 years ago which was moslty wholesale. I’ve done everything I can to "fix" it. More websites, more products, try this try that, get top page rank and still it shrinks. There’s just too many sites and there are a fixed number of brides. Bridal pie is sliced thinner and thinner every year.

My husband has contributed nothing intellectual to the dilemma-he may as well be a slug mentally. Now I’m going off to teach–he tells me when the business fianlly dies, he’ll probably make 20,000 a year and I have to be happy with that. We earned 5 times that 5 years ago. He has no desire to re-educate himself and get a decent job. I resent it big time. I’m furious–feel totally dumped on. Leave or ride it out?? 3 kids by the way, 13, 14 and 16.
No. I’m not a golddigger, we started with 900 bucks and a baby, built it from nothing. It’s his attitude that he *is* the buisness and when it dies, he basically dies too.

He told me he has only 2 more years, then the kids are old enough and he doesn’t care anymore. So, where is his commitment to me and our future? That’s the source of my anger. It’s not like we have a great retirement saved up. What about our future life together?

It seems he can’t wait to escape responsibility and is hoping the busines will last long enough until he can just take a walk–been talk of this in the past. I still love many things about him though. It’s tough.

By the way, we both work in the business, so it’s not like he’s supporting me. We both support the family. Teaching will be job #2 for me.
